Bladeless LASIK

Traditional LASIK has always been considered safe, but with modern advances, we are now able to provide an even safer method of LASIK. Replacing the instrument used in traditional LASIK, and excimer laser is used to create the “corneal flap” needed to complete LASIK surgery. The laser is fast and effective, and computer-guided, which leaves less room for human error.

Bladeless LASIK is the method used during the majority of LASIK procedures today. It requires no blade incisions, dilation or laser tracks on the natural pupil, and also conserves tissue by minimizing treatment time. This leads to less discomfort and a speedy recovery.  Our patients at Westlake Eye Specialists in Austin have reported great results with bladeless LASIK!

Bladeless LASIK patients at Westlake Eye in Austin generally report better outcomes, including clearer vision in low light, such as when driving at night. This is because the excimer laser is extremely precise, and leaves a smoother surface after the flap is created. The blade used during traditional LASIK surgery can leave a rougher surface, which can affect postoperative vision.

Not everyone is a candidate for bladeless LASIK surgery. Generally, you would need to have had a stable prescription for a year, and be relatively healthy, no eye infections or injuries. We cannot perform LASIK surgery on patients younger than 18 years of age. You must have astigmatism, farsightedness or nearsightedness.

We can’t tell you with any certainty if you are a good candidate for LASIK without first examining your eyes. Before any LASIK procedure, you must go through a comprehensive eye exam and consultation. Our doctors at Westlake Eye Specialists will be able to tell you if you are a good candidate for bladeless LASIK.
